More Information on Surrounding Brockenhurst Park
Brockenhurst, meaning "badgers home" in Celtic, is one of the largest villages in the New Forest which is Europe's largest surviving area of ancient pasture woodland. It still retains an air of old world charm and ponies, donkeys and cows roam freely, and drink from the watersplash at the bottom of the main street on their way to graze in the ancient woods which surround the village.

Although set in a delightful forest environment, Brockenhurst has road and rail communications with the rest of the country that rival what is found in many large towns. The M3 motorway access to the M27 from junction 13 and via junction 1 on the M27 there is access to the A337, Cadnam, Lyndhurst, Brockenhurst, Lymington Road. Easily accessible, Brockenhurst is within a few miles of the sea and the heart of the forest is only a few minutes walk away.

The village is well known for a diversity of shops, tea rooms, pubs and high quality restaurants. There are also forest tours with wagon and horses, forest walks, of varying lengths, some waymarked with explanatory notes to help visitors. Every year there is a village fête on the Bank Holiday Monday in August and in Late July The New Forest show takes place in New Park just a few minutes drive from the centre of the village.

Many parts of the forest, hidden to the motorist are easily reachable by bicycle on designated gravel tracks, horse riding is another activity well catered for by the town, local riding establishments cater for all ages and abilities.

Brockenhurst, the only village within the Perambulation of the New Forest whose value in the Domesday survey of 1086 was doubled (to £4.00) when that of many others was reduced, was also the only village mentioned as having a church. St. Nicholas, built upon a mound, may date back to Pagan times. Roman "bricks" and parts of Second and Third Century masonry have been built into the South porch and, in the South wall of the knave, typical herringbone masonry, possibly from an earlier church, can be seen. Both the doorway and the nave show late Norman work. St Nicholas stands outside the gates of Brockenhurst Park.

Attractions include the National Motor Museum in Beaulieu, Beaulieu Abbey, New Forest Owl Sanctuary, New Forest Cider, Calshot, New Forest Wagon Rides, Exbury, Furzey and Spinners Gardens, New Park Farm (home of the New Forest Show), Longdown Dairy Farm, Musical concerts, Bird/Badger guided walks and much more. Details of these attractions are available in our cottages.

La Grange, Normandie. FRANCE
Recently renovated to the highest standard, La Grange was formerly the barn attached to the owner's 17th century Norman farmhouse. It will comfortably accommodate six adults.

La Valette is a pretty hamlet situated just 3km from the huge sandy beaches and dunes of the western coast of the Cotentin Penisula. It is a short distance from the seaside town of Portbail and 45 minutes from the port of Cherbourg or 1.5 hours from the port of Caen.

Photo of La Grange
La Grange is approached from a gravelled parking area at the front of the property. Its pretty shuttered façade leads, through a typical Norman stable door, into a large living room with a vast stone fireplace and good supply of logs. The sitting area is amply furnished, with patio doors overlooking the large pretty rear garden to the fields beyond. The dining area comfortably seats six adults. There is a well equipped kitchen which includes cooker, dishwasher and microwave. There is also a downstairs cloakroom housing a washing machine. For the colder months, a new oil fired central heating system has been installed. For entertainment, the sitting area also provides a colour television, video player and hi-fi system.

Attractive wooden stairs lead up to the two double bedrooms both with lovely old exposed beams, and views towards Denneville Church. Bedroom One features a double bed with ensuite bathroom and Bedroom Two has twin beds and an ensuite shower room. There is also a comfortable sofa bed in the sitting room which provides sleeping accommodation (sprung mattress) for two people. The patio has the advantage of a built in barbeque and outdoor furniture.

All in all La Grange offers a beautiful getaway from the busy world, which has all the modern facilities one could wish for amid the charm and tradition of ancient Norman surroundings

Interior PhotoEnvirons: The village of Denneville is 2km away, and has a butcher, grocer, post office and a wonderful bakery which is open from dawn to dusk!
